Having started an App division which will expand from custom client apps to include consumer and product apps; we excitedly scoured the app store and crowd funding sites for inspiration on app ideas. Along the way, we came across great explainer videos, some of which were used to raise millions for apps that we thought were ... ahem.. questionable value propositions. One of the team, who will remain nameless, even threw $99 into a wearable tech device which only managed to raise 5% of its target. After days of trolling through back projects we came to this conclusion:
So what could we do? Naturally, we HAD to make a spoof video; a tribute to all the crowd funded apps that raise millions of dollars off fancy explainer whiteboard animation videos. The crowd funding explainer video of today is the Ginsu knife infomercial of the 80s -- Girish Khera, SA COO
Introducing Auto Pilot - the app that allows you to lose your mind !
'Sleep' while you work out with the AutoPilot app! A tribute to all the crowdfunded apps that raise millions of dollars off fancy explainer whiteboard animation videos. This year we turned our custom app capability into its own division with an eye on consumer apps. The first thing the division did was create this app spoof explainer video.
But the joke was apparently on us -- more than 50% of the first 100 viewers thought it was real. This was after descriptions that included the word spoof, and the word fake. We were asked questions like when is it going to be released? How does it work? What is this exactly?
We even had one query asking about the apps 'funding situation' ... eat your heart out kickstarter.
Alas, for now its a spoof...though who knows couple of years down this may just actually be "REAL". Maybe, just like the tricorder device in Star Trek, a form of which is now available on crowdfunding
But for now its just an app spoof explainer video...Sigh...
